ââ¬Å"I guess thats the point of it all. No one knows for certain how much impact they have on the lives of other people. Oftentimes, we have no clue. Yet we push it just the sameâ⬠- Thirteen Reasons Why. Over 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year. Bullying is a serious offence and shouldnââ¬â¢t be taken lightly, students around the world should be aware of what bullying does and how it affects the other person. Seventeen percent of American students report bullying two to three times a month or more within a school semester. Bullying has been occurring for years and bullying in schools was one of the first manifestations. Kids go home every day crying because they were hurt at school and are too afraid to tellâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Erin Gallagher was 13 years old when she committed suicide on November 4th, 2012 after receiving hateful messages on an online forum. Earlier in September Ciara Pugsley, 15 was found dead in her home in CO Leitrim after receiving hateful messages on the same online forum. These girls were in need of help, but once people realized that they were being harassed it was too late. Other times a person sends hate mail because they are unhappy with themselves or the environment theyââ¬â¢re living in. Thatââ¬â¢s what happened to Alicia Hardin, a former student at Trinity International University in Chicago. Alicia was unhappy at the school and wanted her parents to let her transfer her to a different college. To convince her parents, she started sending out hate mail to all of the African American and Hispanic students of the university and telling her parents it was a dangerous place to be. In the end the school had to involve the police of all these letters and Alicia was charged with hate crime and disorderly conduct. Sending hateful letters or emails is not funny, it is very serious and shouldnââ¬â¢t be taken lightly. Alicia saw the consequences and now sheââ¬â¢s spending her time in jail. To her it was just a way to get out of school, but to the others it was a different issue. She never stopped to think how this would affect the other students, whether they wanted to take it out on themselves or to others.
